What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a unique, rapid recovery approach to psychotherapy which uses bilateral eye movements and guides the client to replace the mind’s negative images that cause the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress (and other issues) with positive images of the client’s choosing. We say “keep the knowledge, lose the pain” because you will keep the facts but lose the distressing images, sensations and symptoms. This is done quickly, with clients feeling relieving and positive effects within the first session. Once the negative images have been replaced by positive ones, the triggers will be gone, nightmares and repeated intrusive thoughts stop, and the intensity of difficult emotions will drastically decrease.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy works quickly.
ART is an integrated, somatic psychotherapy that is evidence-based and scientifically backed. Many folks love it in part because it does not require discussing trauma details and the process itself is calming. ART is generally very effective in treating trauma (one-time incidents or complex trauma), anxiety, depression, phobias, grief and many other issues. More so, it provides relief and resolution rapidly, in fewer sessions and therefore often at a lower cost overall.
How do we start Accelerated Resolution Therapy?
The intake includes practicing the eye movements so you can experience how it works, ensure it is effective for you, and feel some immediate relief. While I may offer and then use some brief ART tools in standard “talk therapy” sessions, longer dedicated ART sessions are used to fully address problem symptoms, images and sensations related to specific traumas or distressing issues. The recommended number of ART sessions will vary by person but it is good to plan on engaging in at least 2-5 ART sessions per theme/issue. These may occur a few days apart, weekly, or less often depending on your goals and our mutual scheduling availability.
